Sera Jey Monastery, Bylakuppe

In the last week, I had visited to Sera Jey Buddhist Monastery located in the state of Karnataka, India. This is one of the largest universities for the Buddhist Philosphical studies where morethan 3500 monks live and pursue their studies at this campus.

Photography was strictly prohibited at this campus, and I had to take the prior permission from the authorities of the monastery for photographing the campus.

In fact my plan was to stay there at the monstery for a week long shooting. Because of some unfortunate reasons I had to come back within 24hrs I reach the place. Anyways, I enjoyed my short stay over there, and the surroundings of the monastery are visually pleasing.

More importantly, I had a very good shooting session, and it happened because of two fortunate reasons, one is that there are some special prayers, second is inauguration of the new temple at the Lama Campus on the same day.

So these two things gave me an opportunity to see all the monks gathered at one place and some special kind of prayers added more beauty to their assembly.

And the rest of the time I was roaming around the streets of Lama Campus and visited the home of few monks to see the way they live here.

After reviewing these pictures coming back to home, I felt thankful for the authorities given me the permission to shoot these events, without restricting me at any point of time during photographing.
